Personal Protective Equipment for Animal Care and Use
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and University Health and Safety-Occupational Health (UHS-OH) have established requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure that proper safeguards are in place for human and animal health. These requirements were established by a group of experts in occupational health and safety, animal care and use, and regulatory requirements. The requirements are effective immediately. Principal Investigators are responsible for ensuring that all personnel working with animals are fully informed of the requirements and have the necessary equipment.
These requirements apply to all persons who handle research or teaching animals at the University.
Please note that all PPE, especially filtering facepieces, must be stored in a manner that prevents damage, deformation, and exposure to temperature extremes. PPE must be stored in a manner or location that minimizes exposure to contamination. PPE users must comply with all manufacturer’s instructions on storage.
